Performance Enhancement Experience
Dr. Matthews offers performance enhancement consultation on an individual, mentoring basis, complemented by the interventions discussed elsewhere in this site. Consultation may be in the office or provided as remote service as appropriate.
Tom Matthews has participated in amateur sports intensively, with a focus on swimming, bicycling, running, and triathlons. He has started and manages two small businesses including the clinic and a software company in the field of applied psychophysiology (Beyond VR LLC). Academically, he completed a B.A. in Philosophy at the University of Virginia, M. A. and Ph.D. in the A.P.A.-approved Clinical Psychology program at Georgia State University, and Internship and research at Colmery O'Neil VAMC in Topeka, KS. He is active in the several professional societies related to psychophysiology on the national level, and has served twice as president of the Biofeedback Society of Kansas.
The point? He has walked the walk, been there. Beyond an abstract intellectual, remote professional, or passing business interest in Performance Enhancement, he has spent an adult lifetime winnowing the skills and knowledge to achieve results. Probably you have heard the saying that when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. It refers to a tendency to expect one skill to meet all needs. Dr. Matthews offers not one or two skills, nor even just clinical skills, but an integrated array of solutions targeted to each individual's needs on the path to their optimal function.
